My first natural hairstyle!!

January 21, 2014

Hi ladies,

Ever since I started my longterm transition to natural hair, I have wanted to try out a flat twist and twist updo and I finally did. Yay!!!!

I had been looking for a stylist in Nairobi, Kenya who could do it for me but unfortunately I could not find any. So i ended up teaching my cousin how to flat twist and twist and she really did a good job. Too bad she had to go back to boarding school :(

I really loved the look and enjoyed it for two weeks :) it is a great protective style too!

What protective styles have you tried out this year?

  2. This is lovely.. I too had to literally beg my hair dresser to try it out..she was reluctant though, so I settled for the typical lines.. Now that you have the idea, set up a saloon for us sisters and the brothers who need the services. Coz I reckon our hair stylist know very little about hair care and worst of it all, they don't want to learn...They still insist on doing what they have done for years... POWER TO YOU SISTER!

    1. Very very lovely. And i agree, you should start a saloon. Hair dressers don't take very well to being told what to do. I've been trying texlax my hair, still not found some one whose agreed to do it and I'm not courageous enough to do it myself even after all the information online. So if you could offer your services on top of the consulting thing, I for one would stand in line!!!

    2. Thank you ladies. I will definitely put your idea into consideration. It would be nice to be able to visit a salon and just sit back not worrying that a stylist will do something crazy to your hair.

  5. does anyone know where I can get a small blowdryer inNairobi, smaller than the normal one you find in salons. I want to start doing my own hair since salons are just sturbbon and wont try what you tell them, anyone please. I support the idea of you starting a salon btw,you are great at this and a good number of Kenyan women are going the natural way.

  7. Wow! That hairstyle looks great! It's unique, creative, and truly beautiful. And it really suits you, Jo. Your cousin did a great job. It’s too bad that she had to go before you could grow your hair out even more. That would’ve given you guys more ways to play around with your hair. Anyway, thanks for sharing! Stay gorgeous!
